Helping South Africa eat better

There are still too many of us in South Africa who do not eat enough fruit and vegetables in our daily diets. We want to change this.

There are many reasons why fruit and vegetables are not eaten more in South Africa – one major factor is that fresh fruit and vegetable are, ironically, not readily available in our rural communities. Although there is a trend towards healthier eating and educating children and communities, the increasing level of obesity in children is a sure sign that these messages have not gone far enough.

We want to change this by providing clear, up-to-date information to as many people as we can. We want to be a leader in nutrition education. That is why we go out and "feed the world with knowledge"!

We do this in a number of ways. Firstly, we educate ourselves - through our own research specialists in the Dole Nutrition Institute and other nutrition experts outside our company. We do this to ensure that the information we provide is correct and beneficial to you, that the research we support is relevant and that our sponsorship programmes make a real difference.

In addition, we work with like-minded organisations and government institutions, promoting the consumption of fruits and vegetables to our children, their families and the community, all in the cause of ensuring that our Dole South Africa slogan rings true not just in what we produce but in what we teach people about its nutritional value. We want people to see the very real and long-term benefits of our supplying ‘the best of fruit, anywhere, anytime’.
