Why and how fruit's good for you

How food makes you feel affects how you eat: there’s a reason we believe an apple a day keeps the doctor away – apples are actually good for us!

Do you feel happy with the way you eat? Perhaps you feel guilty because you know your diet is not as healthy as it should be? Would you like to improve it, while still enjoying what you eat and feeling fulfilled?

We believe that eating more fresh fruit and vegetables can give you this contentment and feeling of wellbeing. Fresh fruit and vegetables are full of natural goodness – vitamins, minerals, fibre, natural sugars – and low in potentially harmful fats.

More specifically, medical science has proved that a diet without sufficient fruit and vegetables can lead to obesity, heart disease and some types of cancer. The anti-oxidants found in most fruit are a key element in fighting the free radicals in our bodies that can cause cancer. Dark-coloured fruit, in particular, appears to be higher in anti-oxidants: black grapes, black plums, cranberries, blueberries, and so on.

That’s why regular structured meals prepared with fresh fruit and vegetables will do wonders for your wellbeing. And many fruits – such as bananas, apples, oranges, berries – are delicious as individual pre-wrapped snacks. Apples and bananas are particularly easy and convenient to eat at almost any time.

Quality fresh fruits and vegetables help you eat better, feel better and live better. This is why our motto at Dole South Africa is based on a commitment to providing ‘the best of fruit, anywhere, anytime’.
